Ona Reinoso, volunteer at the CODESPA Catalunya Foundation
Due to the situation created by the pandemic, volunteers have had to adapt to COVID measures. Therefore, we meet with our volunteers digitally, via Zoom, every week and in a personalized manner. This allows us to continue working on campaigns and planning activities to continue helping the participants of our development cooperation projects.
Ona Reinoso is one of the volunteers at Fundació CODESPA Catalunya. An International Baccalaureate student at a school in Barcelona, she is a lively, active, and caring person. Over the course of two years, she has been developing the CAS project “Creativity, Action, and Solidarity.” And to achieve this, she chose CODESPA. Ona joined the foundation’s communications department as a volunteer in October 2019, to contribute her knowledge and help us achieve the foundation’s mission.
What does being a volunteer at CODESPA entail or what does it bring you?
At CODESPA, we have been working for 37 years to end the extreme poverty suffered by people in Latin America, Africa, and Asia. During this time, we have understood that the solution lies in each person achieving a livelihood that guarantees their independence, starting a business or finding work to support their family. And that is what we achieve with the projects we carry out.
To date, we have helped more than 5 million people move from poverty to prosperity. And, with your help, we know we can achieve the challenge we have set for ourselves: helping 10 million people.
Why were you interested in our foundation?
I find the projects developed at CODESPA fascinating. Ultimately, what they aim to do is give people born in countries or situations where they haven’t had access to training or sufficient resources to develop a project the opportunity to carry it out. How do we do this? By training and teaching them. Something many of us don’t appreciate, because we have it at our fingertips. And, in reality, it’s so necessary. Yes, it’s not a question of ability; it’s a question of having the opportunity. And the CODESPA Foundation offers it to those who need it most, giving them the tools and knowledge necessary to have a chance at a better life.
Your contribution as a volunteer
My volunteer work involves promoting the foundation’s projects through social media. The goal of my work is to educate young people about current social problems, enabling them to acquire the social responsibility necessary to contribute, in one way or another, to our society. I can assure you that volunteering will never be an endearing part of my life.
