Vocational training and job placement for young women in Tetouan, Morocco.

  • Participants: 20 women, aged 15 to 30, living in economically and socially vulnerable situations. The indirect beneficiaries are their communities and families, approximately 120 people.
  • Area of specialization: Vocational and micro-entrepreneurship training.

Starting point

In Morocco, the difficulties in accessing formal employment that guarantees decent economic and living conditions are multiplied among the low-income population, who lack access to an education adapted to their circumstances.

Young people find themselves in a situation of lack of education or vocational training, which makes it very difficult to access employment and from which they are unable to escape. The main causes are:

  • A lack of specific public vocational training programs aimed at the most vulnerable groups. These include women, children who dropped out of school early or who never attended school, and adults who have had no access to any type of training.
  • Deficit in the work to improve the transversal skills necessary to face the world of work with guarantees of success.
  • Deficit in job guidance programs.

There are other underlying and structural causes, such as the current legal framework in Morocco regarding the Labor Code, the lack of training and resources for Labor Inspectorate staff to combat labor exploitation and child labor, the lack of resources to guarantee the universalization of basic training, and the lack of investment in improving human capital.

Objective

To improve the opportunities for 20 young women in vulnerable situations to access decent and stable employment through training and support in their job placement.

What is the project about

The project is part of policies supporting public vocational training strategies for the social and labor inclusion of women at risk of social exclusion.

Participants’ qualifications will be organized around a training program with three main training areas:

  • Professional: 20 young people will benefit from a vocational training program in dressmaking, which will take place at the Taboula Center, the public vocational training center in the city of Tetouan. The association has identified this training as having high employability potential in this region.
  • Transversal skills, a life skills program, and job search techniques to improve their chances of entering the labor market. By the end of the project, at least 10 beneficiaries will have access to formal employment.
  • Training and employment support. Equal rights and responsibilities for all members of the community, through training and access to employment.
