What we do

What are we doing to fight poverty?

Since 1985, we have been working to end the cycle of extreme poverty in communities around the world and helping the most vulnerable transition from poverty to prosperity.

It is estimated that more than 750 million people live in extreme poverty and that 15% of the world’s population earns less than $700 a year. These people live in informal, fluctuating jobs that barely allow them to survive. Furthermore, isolation and lack of access to economic resources and training make it virtually impossible to escape this situation of poverty without external help.

At CODESPA, we believe in work as a driver of change. It allows people to unleash their full potential to become self-sufficient and generate lasting benefits. This breaks the cycle of poverty they find themselves in and also improves the society in which we live. Therefore, providing decent and stable work opportunities for these people is essential.

Our areas of expertise

With the goal of ending poverty, CODESPA carries out economic and social development cooperation projects in Latin America, Africa, and Asia, where we generate development opportunities for the most disadvantaged people and communities. To this end, we focus on three areas of specialization:

Development of rural markets

To achieve decent jobs, income-generating opportunities, and better living conditions, it is essential to enhance people’s skills and abilities, which is why we incorporate vocational, business, and leadership training into our projects.

We offer comprehensive education on family and business financial management. We also design inclusive financial products and services tailored to the needs of local microentrepreneurs.

We provide technical and commercial expertise and promote innovation. We also help organize the marketing and sale of farm products, promoting or creating new markets.

How do we work?

At CODESPA, we have extensive experience in development cooperation projects aimed at helping the most vulnerable. We currently have offices in the 11 countries where we work. This experience, combined with our close relationship with our project participants, has allowed us to develop a unique method that we apply to all our programs: the CODE Method, which empowers communities and ensures an exit strategy.

What is the CODE Method?

Create Community Centered Strategies

We study the specific needs, socioeconomic conditions, and expectations of the target group. We also identify their training, technology, and financing needs, while respecting their culture and market opportunities.

We analyze the market and value chains to detect barriers and identify solutions.

In which countries do we carry out our social projects?

We develop our projects in 11 countries, where we have local offices and teams to work directly with the communities involved.

CODESPA also has offices in Spain and the United States.
