Supporting single mothers by strengthening their skills for professional integration in Tangier

In Moroccan culture, pregnancy outside of marriage is a violation of cultural, social, and religious norms. In this context, unmarried pregnant women are marginalized by their families and excluded from society. Furthermore, they are deprived of the most basic rights and stigmatized for life.
Aim
The main objective of this project is to provide tailored vocational training and job placement to 20 young women in the city of Tangier, single mothers in a socially at-risk environment, so that they can become self-sufficient.
What the project is about
Thanks to the support of the Maite Iglesias Baciana Foundation, together with local partner 100% Mamás, these mothers will be given access to vocational training through scholarships, as part of an integrated vocational training system aimed at job placement.
The women will participate in training in the artisanal production of raffia products. This training has been identified due to its high employability potential in this area and the demand linked to inclusive businesses. In addition, support will be provided for the marketing of their crafts, as the Association already has its own workshop and experience selling these products.
Furthermore, they will be trained in transversal skills, such as life skills and job search techniques, to help them find paid employment and/or be able to start and launch their own business. This training will improve their employability and, above all, will be key to their socioeconomic autonomy.
To ensure the training process for mothers, the project includes a daycare service for the children of beneficiary women.
