Supporting job placement for disadvantaged youth through vocational training in Tetouan, Morocco.

Starting point

Tetouan is a city experiencing continuous economic growth as a result of foreign investment. This has attracted a rural exodus from areas in central and southern Morocco, and peripheral neighborhoods have been forming, where the population lives in very precarious conditions.

The Moroccan education and training system is insufficient, and there is a high dropout rate. School dropout rates are even higher in these vulnerable areas due to the extreme poverty of families. Many young people work in informal jobs, entering a dynamic that is difficult to escape without help or training. Furthermore, there is a lack of job guidance programs and initiatives to promote self-employment.

Given this situation, it is necessary to develop initiatives to guarantee the training of these young people so that they can access jobs with full guarantees and without violating their fundamental rights.

Objective

Improve the social and labor inclusion of vulnerable youth in the city of Tetouan.

What is the project about

CODESPA, together with its local partner, ATIL Association, which works to prevent the exclusion of minors and young people in Tetouan, will select the enrolled young people based on their socio-laboral profiles.

The training will be conducted in public vocational training centers, where the young people will choose the training courses based on their interests and motivations. These are intensive, short-term programs with immediate benefits, given that in a relatively short period of time, young people acquire the technical skills necessary to successfully enter the labor market.

These programs are complemented by training in transversal skills through a life skills program (soft skills) and job search techniques.

All of this will improve the beneficiaries’ level of education and vocational training for employment and their options for obtaining decent and stable work.
